PPP marks foundation day with events across Sindh

Dozens of rallies and ceremonies were held across Sindh on Thursday as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) marked its 58th foundation day, with district leaders and workers gathering to hear party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s live address via video link. The celebrations concluded with cake-cutting ceremonies, fireworks and musical performances in several towns.

In Mirpurkhas, a large gathering was held outside the local press club where senior leaders, including MNAs Mir Munawwar Talpur and Pir Aftab Shah Jilani, provincial ministers Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah and Mir Tariq Talpur, MPAs Hari Ram Kishori Lal, Noor Ahmed Bhurgari and Khairunnisa Mughal, joined workers for the main event. Following Bilawal’s address, party leaders cut a cake and a musical programme featuring prominent Sindhi artists was held.

In Tharparkar, the celebration took place at Sadiq Faqeer Chowk under the leadership of MNA Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani and district president Dr Ghulam Haider Samejo. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Malani said the PPP’s 58-year struggle was rooted in democratic principles, adding that the party leadership – from Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to Benazir Bhutto and from Asif Ali Zardari to Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari – had never bowed to dictators. He said his family had been associated with the PPP since 1986 and had played a role in building the party’s base in Tharparkar and Mirpurkhas.

Events were also held in Badin where district council chairman Jam Ali Asghar Halepoto and district general secretary Dr Sajjad Ali Chandio told participants that foundation day was akin to Eid for workers. They said the sacrifices of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto kept the party alive despite martial laws and conspiracies. Senior PPP leaders including Sindh Universities and Boards Minister Muhammad Ismail Rahu, government spokesperson Jam Abdul Waheed Halepoto, MNAs Haji Rasool Bux Chandio and Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, and several MPAs attended.

In Tando Allahyar, a large number of workers gathered at Pitafi House, where a 58-pound cake was cut. Former provincial minister Imdad Pitafi and other leaders said PPP had always represented the poor and downtrodden and had withstood conspiracies in every era.Latest News, Breaking News & Top News Stories | The Express TribuneOur CorrespondentRead More
