The Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) on Wednesday gave the Sindh government 48 hours to ensure the supply of wheat to flour mills, warning that flour shortages could emerge across the province after January 15 if the issue is not resolved.
Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, PFMA Chairman Abdul Junaid Aziz, along with other office-bearers, alleged that the Sindh government was providing subsidised wheat to traders instead of flour mills, thereby depriving the public of billions of rupees of benefit.
The PFMA chairman further claimed that 1 million bags of subsidised wheat meant for Sindh were being sent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He alleged that traders had “hijacked” the food department and were being supplied wheat even on holidays and during late-night hours.
