Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched a major overhaul of its vehicle registration process with the introduction of the “Personalised Registration Mark System,” under which a vehicle’s number will belong to the citizen instead of the vehicle. The Chief Minister formally inaugurated the new system on Wednesday.
Under the updated mechanism, citizens will be able to retain their registration number even after selling their vehicle. According to the official briefing, “When a vehicle is sold, the number will remain with the seller without any fee; the buyer will apply for a new number themselves.” The briefing further stated that a citizen may keep their number “for up to three years without attaching it to any vehicle.” Officials also explained that, much like a CNIC or mobile number, “the citizen will be the owner of the vehicle’s number.”
Chief Minister of KP, Sohail Afridi, noted that the new digital registration platform will help curb illegal practices. “The new digital registration system will help eliminate fake number plates and cloning,” he said. He added that the personalised system will make vehicle registration “fast, transparent, and corruption-free.” According to the briefing, the PRM system will also reduce “illegal use of vehicles.”

The Chief Minister stressed the government’s aim to ease administrative processes for the public. “Our purpose is to provide relief to the people,” he said, directing the Excise Department to create an online registration system as well.
During the event, the Chief Minister announced a martyrs’ package for the Excise Department in recognition of its anti-narcotics efforts, modelled on the package available to police personnel. “I pay tribute to the Excise Department for their actions against narcotics. Soon we will see a drug-free Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said.
Calling for intensified action, Afridi urged authorities to pursue major figures in the drug trade. “A crackdown should be launched against those involved in the drug business; action should be taken against the big fish,” he said. The Chief Minister reinforced the government’s tough stance, declaring, “There is zero tolerance against anyone involved in the drug trade; we will not rest until this menace is eliminated.”Latest News, Breaking News & Top News Stories | The Express TribuneShahid HamidRead More
