Pakistan, Egypt discuss enhanced cooperation in counter-terrorism and narcotics control

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and State Minister Talal Chaudhry on Saturday met a delegation from Egypt’s Interior Ministry, led by Major General Majdi Hilal, and discussed enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism and narcotics control, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

In a post on X, the ministry stated that Chaudhry, during the meeting, said that “there are vast opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics, and internal security.”

The Egyptian delegation, which included Brigadier Issam Abu al-Khair, Brigadier Engineer Muhammad Razi, and Brigadier Doctor Muhammad Munir, noted that both countries could benefit from one another’s experiences in various sectors.

According to the statement, the meeting noted that visits by various institutions, including the Anti-Narcotics Force and the NPA “have been extremely beneficial.”

Naqvi also extended a message of goodwill to his Egyptian counterpart, the ministry stated, adding that the interior secretary was also present during the occasion, along with other senior officials.

The development comes as Pakistan has been actively strengthening bilateral ties with regional partners.

Earlier this week, the interior minister met his Bangladeshi counterpart Salahuddin Ahmed in Dhaka, where the two sides signed an MoU to enhance cooperation in combating drug smuggling, narcotics trafficking and drug abuse.
